Dr. Ayesha Alvi

Council Head: Council on Bioethics (CB)

Dr. Ayesha Alvi is a geneticist and molecular biologist whose current research focuses on Islamic bioethics, particularly assisted reproductive technologies. She is the Group Head of Islamic Perspectives in Bioethics at the Centre for Study and Research (CSR), New Delhi, a position she has held since June 2022.

Prior to this, she was Head of the Department of Genetics and Molecular Biology at Jazan University, Saudi Arabia from 2009 to 2018, and has also held research appointments at the Institute of Life Science and the Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics in Hyderabad, India. Dr. Alvi received her Ph.D. in Cell and Molecular Biology from the Centre for Liver Research and Diagnostics, Hyderabad (1998โ€“2005), and was awarded the DST Fast Track Young Scientist award for her work in molecular biology.

Dr. Shabana Kesar

Council Head: Council on Gender Studies (CGS)

Dr Shabana Kesar is an Associate Professor in the Department of Women Education at Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU), Hyderabad. She holds a Ph.D. in Women Studies and was awarded a Gold Medal at the university level by Karnataka State Women University, Bijapur, on 1 May 2005.

Her academic career includes extensive teaching experience in master’s and Ph.D. programmes as well as undergraduate courses, along with active involvement in administrative roles such as Assistant Dean of Student Welfare, Assistant Proctor, and Academic Coordinator at MANUU. She has published several works on women, gender, and social issues, including two books and numerous journal articles.

Dr. Yusuf Amin

Council Head: Council on Islamic Perspectives on Philosophy (CIMS)

Prof. Mohammad Yusuf Amin is a distinguished Islamic scholar and medical pharmacologist, formerly a Professor of Pharmacology at the Faculty of Unani Medicine, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU). He holds both an MBBS and an M.D. in Pharmacology and has taught Modern Pharmacology and Research Methods for nearly 30 years.

MD, former professor in the Department of Pharmacology at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Aligarh. With additional specialisation in psychology, he has extensively published works in biomedical sciences and Islamic psychology, and has delivered over 200 lectures at prestigious global institutes.

He has supervised over 50 advanced research projects investigating pharmacological activities such as adaptogenic, anti-arthritic, and cardiovascular effects. Apart from his scientific contributions, Prof. Amin is deeply engaged in research on Islam and Modern Science, promoting the integration of ethical and spiritual values within scientific inquiry. His work reflects a unique blend of medical science and Islamic scholarship.

Prof. Akbar Husain

Council Head: Indian Council on Islamic Perspectives on Psychology (ICIPP)

Professor Akbar Husain is a distinguished psychologist and academic, formerly Chairman of the Department of Psychology and Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at Aligarh Muslim University. With over 41 years of teaching and research experience, he has supervised 41 Ph.D. theses, 8 post-doctoral research projects, and 10 M.Phil. dissertations.

Awarded the D.Litt. in Psychology in 2015 for his pioneering work on spirituality in psychology, Professor Husain has authored 46 books and published 291 research papers, including numerous works in SCOPUS and Web of Science-indexed journals. His contributions encompass Spiritual Psychology, Positive Psychology, and Islamic Psychology, where he has developed innovative theoretical models and psychological assessment tools. He currently serves as Adjunct Professor at Integral University, Lucknow.

Prof. Mirza Asmer Beg

Council Head: Council on Political Science (CPS)

Prof. Mirza Asmer Beg is a Professor in the Department of Political Science at Aligarh Muslim University, India. He specialises in Strategic Studies, electoral politics, and Muslim politics in India. His doctoral dissertation won the Best Dissertation Prize (1996) from the American Studies Research Centre, Hyderabad. A Fulbright visiting scholar at Southern Illinois University in 1999 and a Fellow of the Salzburg Global Seminars in Austria, he has published extensively in journals such as Economic and Political Weekly, The Round Table, and Studies in Indian Politics.

He authored the book In The Tug-Of-War (1999) and has co-edited volumes including Muslims in India: Perspectives, Planning and the Road Ahead (2012) and Perspectives on National Integration (2012). Prof. Beg also serves as the Uttar Pradesh (West) State Coordinator for surveys conducted by the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies (CSDS), New Delhi, and is a member of the editorial boards of several international journals.

Prof. Parwaiz Nazir

Council Head: Council on Historical Studies (CHS)

Dr. Parwez Nazir is a Professor in the Department of History at Aligarh Muslim University, specialising in Modern Indian History, Indian Culture, and Print Media. He holds a Ph.D. in History with research focused on Urdu journalism and has taught history for over 18 years, with significant post-doctoral research experience. His research includes the role of Muslims in the Indian Freedom Movement, the Revolt of 1857 and Urdu journalism, and the political awakening in India through the Urdu press.

Dr. Nazir has published on subjects ranging from social reform to Sufi concepts of coexistence, and he actively participates in academic conferences and supervises doctoral research. He is a recipient of UGC and ICHR fellowships and is fluent in several languages including Arabic, in which he holds diplomas and certificates. His affiliations include memberships in the Indian History Congress and Rajasthan History Congress.
